Signs You Need a New Bra (And Why It Matters More Than You Think)
Let’s be honest—most of us hold onto our favourite bras for far longer than we should. When you finally find one you love, it’s hard to let go. But like anything you wear on repeat, bras have a lifespan—and knowing when it’s time to replace them is key to staying comfortable, supported, and confident.
Not sure if yours is past its best? Here are the tell-tale signs it’s time for a refresh.
1. The Band Is Riding Up
Your bra band should sit straight and snug across your back—not creeping upwards throughout the day. If it’s riding up, it usually means the band has stretched out and is no longer giving you the support you need.
Since the band provides most of your bra’s support, this is one of the biggest indicators it’s time for a new one.
2. The Straps Are Doing All the Work
Constantly tightening your straps just to feel supported? That’s a red flag.
Straps are there for adjustment, not heavy lifting. If they’re digging into your shoulders or slipping off no matter what you do, your bra isn’t fitting properly anymore—or it’s simply worn out.
3. The Cups Don’t Fit Like They Used To
Gapping, spillage, or wrinkling in the cups are all signs your bra isn’t fitting your current shape.
Our bodies change over time—whether due to hormones, lifestyle, or natural fluctuations—so a change in cup fit doesn’t mean anything is wrong. It just means it might be time to reassess your size and find something that fits you now.
4. The Fabric Has Lost Its Stretch
Bras go through a lot—washing, wearing, stretching—and over time, the fabric naturally loses its elasticity.
If your bra feels loose, flimsy, or no longer “bounces back,” it’s probably not offering the support it once did.
5. You’re Experiencing Discomfort
If your bra is causing irritation, chafing, or general discomfort, don’t ignore it.
Lingerie should never feel like something you can’t wait to take off. A well-fitting bra should feel supportive, soft, and almost unnoticeable throughout the day.
6. The Underwire Is Poking (Or Has Escaped)
If you’re dealing with a rogue underwire, it’s definitely time to say goodbye.
Not only is it uncomfortable, but it can also damage the fabric further—and no amount of adjusting will fix it properly.
7. It’s Been Over 6–12 Months
Even if your bra looks fine, regular wear takes its toll. If you’re wearing the same bra on repeat, it may need replacing sooner than you think.
Rotating between a few bras can help extend their life—but eventually, every bra needs retiring.
Time for an Upgrade
Letting go of an old bra doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort—it’s the opposite. The right bra should support your body as it is today, not how it used to be.
At Tutti Rouge, we’re all about creating pieces that feel as good as they look—whether that’s a supportive everyday bra or a soft, wire-free bralette like our best-selling Gia.
Because when your bra fits right, everything else just feels better.
